FAQ

Some of the most frequently asked questions

General

How does IELTS Speak Easy differ from other IELTS preparation apps? IELTS speak easy offers a unique approach by providing voice/text input correction, a high band version, and feedback tailored to your responses.

How can I use your App to improve my speaking? The App’s main focus is to help you improve your vocabulary and grammar. More details on how to use the App can be found in our 'blog' section. The App also allows you to practise your speaking anywhere and at any time and this can help improve your confidence and familiarity with the exam.

How much actual speaking practise can I do with the paid version? We recommend doing 10 minute sessions every day and this equates to 300 minutes of speech input for the month. Per day this is roughly 1 full IELTS exam, 20 part 1 questions, 5-10 part 2 questions, OR 10-17 part 3 questions. Of course, all of these figures will depend on the length of your responses.

What is the purpose of text inputs? Text inputs are done using your keyboard or ‘voice typing’ handled exclusively by Android OS. It is not as accurate as our voice recognition software and there can be some problems with auto-correct etc. Furthermore, the timed response functionality is turned off during text inputs.

What is the recommended duration for speaking practice in each part? Recommended durations are 20-30 seconds for Part 1, 1-2 minutes for Part 2, and 30-60 seconds for Part 3. Please note that, if your response is too short then feedback will not be given.

How does the correction/rephrase/feedback help improve student’s band score? The correction is a great way to improve your grammar by comparing your response to a similar response at a similar level. The rephrasing uses your response and incorporates band 8-9 vocabulary and collocations. This is like your perfect answer and is a great way to improve your vocabulary. The feedback provides some additional information on vocabulary and grammar that should prove useful. Although all of these functions work with the text input, the speech input is highly recommended for a better overall experience.

Subcription and Payment

How does the subscription model work? IELTS Speak Easy follows a one-time payment model for a month. This is a NON-RECURRING expense.

Why did you use a 1-month Subscription model? There are two main reasons. First, one month should be enough to help you improve your IELTS speaking performance and you are unlikely to need the App after the test. Second, we use the latest technology to assess your speaking parts and this is costly so, by limiting users to a one-month period, we can keep the cost of the App down.

What is included in the paid version of the app? We offer 3 tiers of subcriptions each designed to allow you to improve no matter your budget. Please refer to the in-app subscription screen for the latest offers.

The free trial version is fully functioning but offers limited speech/text input.

What is the process for payment? Payments are processed by Google Play’s billing system. After you initiate the purchase process, you will be prompted to enter your payment information and confirm the transaction. The payment information is processed exclusively in the Google Play system. After the app receives the payment confirmation, it grants you access to a subscription.

Features

Can I review my past speaking sessions and feedback within the app? Yes, if you have an answer that you would like to look at again this is accessible through our ‘History’ menu. Past questions and answers you have done are stored there.

What types of questions will I see in the App? We have over 1500 real, up to date IELTS questions and these have been vetted extensively by an IELTS expert. We will add more questions as they become available.

Does the APP help gauge my band score? We keep track of your band score and this is updated daily. It can be checked in ‘Statistics’. This is an average band score for the day and we thought this would be more accurate than providing Band Score feedback after every answer. It allows us to average your responses and provide you with a more robust score.

What is the 'Catalogue' feature and how does it help me? The Catalog is a new way to focus your IELTS Speaking practice by topic. It gives you a list of common IELTS topics—like Family, Technology, Books, or Film—and for each one, you’ll find a small set of Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 questions. This lets you build your vocabulary, confidence, and fluency around specific themes, which is helpful for the exam.

What are 'Model Answers' and how should i use them? The Model Answers section gives you high-quality sample answers for a range of IELTS Speaking questions. Each answer comes with clear audio so you can hear natural pronunciation, intonation, and pacing. You’ll also see the full text of the answer, which helps with learning new vocabulary and sentence structures. Once you’ve listened and read the model, you can try answering the same question yourself right in the app. It’s a great way to learn by example—and then put what you’ve learned into practice!

What’s the 'Vocabulary' section and how does it work? The Vocabulary section helps you build the kind of topic-specific language you need for a strong IELTS Speaking score. It’s divided into 30+ common IELTS topics—like Technology, Environment, or Family. For each topic, you can choose between Medium Band and High Band vocabulary, depending on your current level or goals. After reviewing the words and phrases, you’ll get practice questions where you can try using the vocabulary in real speaking tasks. It’s a powerful way to actively learn and improve the quality of your answers!
